Don’t Get It Twisted!

Worth revisiting…

Not Happenin' On My Watch | Blog

“Follow peace with all [men], and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: (Heb. 12:14).”

So… you’re a shoo-in (sure-win) for heaven?  Oh… so your name is on the ‘church roll?’  So… that qualifies you for heaven?  I see…  Unfortunately, you’re not alone in your thinking.  Let me say this as gently as I can…  No one’s going to heaven on auto-pilot.  We must make a conscious decision to accept Christ (he that believes shall have an everlasting life – John 3:16).  We then make a conscious and daily decision to follow Christ/to die daily to our fleshly nature (eliminate those things not pleasing to God) and walk in the Spirit–and show forth fruit signifying this change.

I’m not suggesting that we will never make mistakes after accepting Christ in our lives.  However, we will not practice sin nor will we joyfully engage in it.  Our godly sorrow produces repentance (II Cor. 7:10)…

Can’t Dull My Shine

It occurred to me (though this isn’t the first time) that not everyone walking with you is with you for the right reasons.  Not everyone in your circle is your friend.  Judas Iscariot followed Jesus…but wasn’t his true friend (or disciple).  Some are commissioned by the enemy to keep us from being all that we were meant to be in Christ. Simply put, their purpose is to dull our shine, to dim our light.  shiny penny“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.  Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house (Matt. 5:14-15).”  Yes, their sole assignment is to get us off track.  But I encourage you to be the light that you were meant to be…and not allow the dust and dirt of the world to dull your shine.  We are not ignorant of the enemy’s devices (II Cor. 2:11).  Rather, we must remain on tactical alert–watching and praying without ceasing.

We must continue to stand fast in the liberty wherewith Christ has made us free and not be entangled again with the yoke of bondage (Gal. 5:1).  break bondsIf we’ve truly been delivered, then we find no pleasure in the old ways.  We’ve put off the old man (Eph. 4:22) and are now content to walk in the newness of life.  No, we will not return to sin’s grip…not even for a moment.  We are no longer conformed to this world but we are transformed by the renewing of our mind that we may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God (Rom. 12:2).  Don’t let dusty and dirty folk dull your shine.  Thank you for visiting, following, subscribing.  Take care and be blessed.

They Don’t Live Here Any More

Hatred, envy, jealousy, strife?  Oh… no, they don’t live here any more.  Moved out some time ago.  Where?  Not sure where…but hopefully a long way from here.

knock“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature:  old things are passed away;  behold, all things are become new (II Cor. 5:17).”  Out with the old…in with the new.  You see, I’m no longer operating according to the works of the flesh (Gal. 5:19-21).  Kissed them goodbye.  Now… I owe no man anything but to love him  (Rom. 13:8).  I’m not concerned with comparisons, nor am I obsessed with what you have vs what I don’t.  I’m not impressed with today’s toys.  Wrath kills the foolish man and envy slays the silly one (Job 5:2).  So don’t call here looking for the old gang.  wrong numberThey don’t live here any more and you’ve got the wrong number.  Bitterness, backstabbing, hot gossip…?  Oh, they’ve moved out too.  Grace and peace are here now.  I’m so thankful for the grace of God.  And it’s available to you too… I’m so grateful for the gift of salvation…that God sent His only begotten Son, that if we believe in Him, we will have everlasting life (John 3:16). If you haven’t already, I encourage you to invite Christ into your life as your personal Savior.  And then watch Him serve some eviction notices on your behalf as well.  “Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ has made [you] free and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage (Gal. 5:1).  Once He brings you out, don’t go back. Instead, allow the God of peace to sanctify you wholly (I Thess. 5:23).  Thank you for visiting, following, subscribing.  Take care and be blessed.

Stuff’s Coming Up Missing

“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly (John 10:10).”  Somebody said, ‘watch who you let in your house…or stuff will come up missing–like love, joy, peace, etc.’  Indeed, we must be watchful of our associations.  Every acquaintance should not be a close friend.  Most of us know at least one or two people that will deplete us of all of our energy and drain us emotionally after a very brief, dramatic encounter with them.  We would be wise to take them in small doses…or we’ll end up worse off after each encounter.

Many New Testament scriptures advise us to be of one mind (II Cor. 13:11; Rom. 12:16; Phil. 1:27; Phil. 2:2; I Pet. 3:8).   I can’t control the mind of the next person…so the best I can do is to control my associations.  We must surround ourselves with like-minded people.  That is not to say that we will agree on every detail.  However, on the things that matter (eternity, for example), we will either agree or eventually separate.  For after all, how “can two walk together except they be agreed (Amos 3:3).”  If I’m pulling one way, and you’re pulling the other, it would be impossible for us to walk together and be at peace with each other.  Of course, we understand that there are those who don’t want to be at peace–those that prefer to continually “stir the pot.”  Some are not happy unless there’s contention.  On guard.  “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life (Prov. 4:23).”  Let nothing and no one steal your joy (the joy of the Lord is your strength -Neh. 8:10); your peace (He will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Him -Isa. 26:3); or your love (This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you -John 15:12).  Thanks for visiting, following, subscribing.  Take care & be blessed.

Recognizing Martin Luther King, Jr.

Happy Martin Luther King Day!  I saw the Leimert/Crenshaw area parade (by television) and I must say that they’ve really stepped up their program this year.  The parade was really nice and very encouraging.  The bands were good, cheering squads good, flag teams good and all of the participants were energized, along with many well-known, influential people.    Police, sheriff, celebrities, government officials, African-American, Caucasian, Hispanic, Asian, and other nationalities were there enjoying and/or participating in the parade.  This year was the best yet, in my opinion.   I believe everything was peaceful and everyone seemed to be enjoying the event.  My prayer is that we can take this positive energy and keep moving forward.  I’m really not sure how much progress has been made since “the dream,” but I am hopeful.  Sometimes I feel we’ve come a long way… and at other times I see we’ve still got a long way to go.  We need a lot of changes still but I will keep it on a positive note today.  I know it was a day of service for many…and that’s a good thing.  I’ve made it a day of service on several occasions.  However, this year it was a day of service at my own house.  I took the day off as it is not a holiday for us.  I did manage to accomplish a lot.  And I, too, still have a long way to go.

Hope you make the decision to love as well.  We’ll all be better off for it.  It’s, of course, easy to love the lovable.  It’s those difficult people that we have problems with, right?  “Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, Doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things (I Cor. 13:4-7).”  Thanks for visiting, following, subscribing.  Take care & be blessed.
