“But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God [is] a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship [him] in spirit and in truth. (John 4:23-24).”
We can ‘fake the praise’ and fool a few folk; but we’re unable to fake true worship. We must know the One that we worship. For how can we truly ascribe value to that which we do not know, to that with which we are unfamiliar? Certainly, we can all praise Him for His mighty acts! He woke me up this morning and for that I give Him praise. I have a reasonable portion of health and strength and for this I give Him praise. But only those who have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ are able to offer true worship. I’m in a committed relationship! We worship Him simply for who He is. We ‘re desperate for His presence–not His presents. We want communion and we’re content to linger in His presence just because–not seeking a gift but seeking to know Him better, to love Him more, to see His glory! I’m in no hurry… I was created to worship Him.
We worship because we’re in awe of Him; and we must be careful not to lose the “awe” and the “wow” of God. Sometimes when we become too familiar with something or someone, we lose the “wow” factor. I never want to get to where I say, “Oh, it’s just God.” When I think of His holiness, His faithfulness, His mercy, His grace, His love, His omnipotence, omnipresence, omniscience, and so forth, I keep coming back to “wow.” And when I think of His great love toward me, my response is automatically a “worship response.” My human Spirit responds to the Spirit of God causing me to worship. Whether I’m refreshed or tired from a long day at work, my heart longs to worship Him. And so I bring my thoughts together to focus on the object of my affection, blocking out all distractions, I worship wholeheartedly, repeatedly, early and often, unashamedly, unreservedly… because I’m in a committed relationship.
