And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep [me] from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested (I Chron. 4:10).
I love Jabez’s prayer. Who couldn’t use a blessing? He knew who to call and he knew just what he wanted. Jabez was very specific in his request and God granted it. I’m looking for some ridiculous blessings in the coming year–not only for me personally, but I want to see souls saved, people delivered and healed in great numbers. …That God would enlarge my territory and increase my borders. As I often say, we don’t need an enlarged territory or an increased border if we’re not doing anything with the territory we already have. Sitting, bench-warming, spectating are actually not spiritual gifts and don’t require the anointing or an increased border. The anointing is for ‘service,’ not sitting and looking pretty. If we have a desire to make a difference for the kingdom of God, however, I believe God will be pleased. To be effective, we need His blessing, His manifest presence, His anointing, His keeping power and His wisdom. We must commit to live a disciplined, holy and separated life, one that is submitted to God’s will for us.
“Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes; For thou shalt break forth on the right hand and on the left; and thy seed shall inherit the Gentiles, and make the desolate cities to be inhabited (Isaiah 54:2-3).” Lord, help us to know You, to really know You, that we may be strong and do exploits (Dan. 11:32)… for Your glory!
