I thank God for His gift of salvation. I understand that it is a free gift and that there is nothing that I could have done or could ever do to earn it. “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: [it is] the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast (Eph. 2:8-9).” It was God’s divine achievement–no human accomplishment could play any part in it.
I also understand that I needed this free gift more than anything (as do we all). “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God (Rom. 3:23).”
I thank God that He loved us enough to make redemption possible. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God (John 3:16-18).” I also understand from this that there is only one way to salvation–faith in Jesus Christ.
“For [there is] one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus (I Tim. 2:5);”
“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me (John 14:6).”
I understand that we have choices–we can go along with the crowd, the majority. Or we can choose the Greater One (Jesus Christ is greater than he that’s in the world – I John 4:4).
“Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide [is] the gate, and broad [is] the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait [is] the gate, and narrow [is] the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it (Matt. 7:13-14).”
Make the right choice. “He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, [even] to them that believe on his name (John 1:11-12):”
There is one straight forward, simple way to salvation. It’s not about rituals, religious acts or trying to be good. It’s about having a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ, who did for our sins (past, present and future). Our debt is paid in full but it is up to us to acknowledge and accept this payment. If we reject the gift and try to accomplish salvation another way, we fail. I accept. And I’m so grateful!
