“Follow peace with all [men], and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: (Heb. 12:14).”
So… you’re a shoo-in (sure-win) for heaven? Oh… so your name is on the ‘church roll?’ So… that qualifies you for heaven? I see… Unfortunately, you’re not alone in your thinking. Let me say this as gently as I can… No one’s going to heaven on auto-pilot. We must make a conscious decision to accept Christ (he that believes shall have an everlasting life – John 3:16). We then make a conscious and daily decision to follow Christ/to die daily to our fleshly nature (eliminate those things not pleasing to God) and walk in the Spirit–and show forth fruit signifying this change.
I’m not suggesting that we will never make mistakes after accepting Christ in our lives. However, we will not practice sin nor will we joyfully engage in it. Our godly sorrow produces repentance (II Cor. 7:10). In a word, it produces change–a 180. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (I John 1:9).” “Therefore if any man [be] in Christ, [he is] a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new (II Cor. 5:17).”
The enemy, Satan, will not allow us to simply ‘waltz’ our way into heaven but is committed to presenting as many stumbling blocks as necessary to cause us to stumble, become discouraged and give up. Waltz into heaven? “And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear (I Pet. 4:18)?”
“Blessed [are] the pure in heart: for they shall see God (Matt. 5:8).” Don’t get it twisted… Simply being good won’t get us in. The fact that our parents were Christians won’t get us in. We all need a personal Savior and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Begin your journey today.
