I’m Getting in Tip-Top Wedding Shape – Part 2

Back to the thought of “getting in tip-top wedding shape!”  Just as I’m preparing for my daughter’s upcoming wedding with much fuss (walking, running, jumping, etc), we too must prepare ourselves (spiritually) to meet the bridegroom.  We all must be in tip-top wedding shape!

“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance (II Peter 3:9).”  I’m grateful that He gives us a chance to get it right.  It’s what we do while waiting that determines whether we will be ready for His arrival.  The 5 foolish virgins, unfortunately, did not make good use of their time.  Thinking that they already had it together, they did not make full and complete preparation.  Their emergency preparedness program fell short.  Sure… they had lamps–but no oil.  We do the same.  We tend to think we already have it together; so we neglect to lay aside the weight and the sin.  We skip giving God our ‘all’–and instead elect to ‘break Him off a piece.”  But He wants ALL of us–a committed life, a worshiping heart!  He is coming for a “glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish (Eph. 5:27).”

When preparing for a wedding, we go the extra mile.  Prince William and Kate’s wedding will be elaborate, I’m sure.  But don’t get it twisted–the Real Royal Wedding is not theirs.  And I understand that there are some rules about what to wear to the royal wedding–dresses must be modest and have sleeves, etc.  If we fuss that much over it, we certainly wouldn’t want to show up to  THE REAL ROYAL WEDDING without the “wedding garment (Matt. 22).”  We should probably start by clothing ourselves in sackcloth and ashes, then fall on our faces and repent wholeheartedly before a Holy God; arise and put on righteousness; then we can slip into the ‘garment of praise!’

“I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh [himself] with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth [herself] with her jewels (Isaiah 61:10).”  … tip-top wedding shape.
