No matter what’s happening around us, it is critical that we stay focused on that which is important to us. The enemy places enticing stumbling blocks in our way to get us off course. It is his desire that we become distracted so that we are unable to fulfill our God-given task and purpose. There are variety of distractions, some of which are disguised as wonderfully nice surprises. However, once we’ve bought into them, we actually come up empty-handed and see them for what they are. God has what we need in His perfect timing. However, the enemy would cause us to feel that God is holding back and hasn’t given us all–like Eve. But in His infinite wisdom and sophisticated cadence, He knows when we’re ready for the blessing He has for us! Christ remained focus and was never taken off his ‘game.’ The Lakers… well that’s another story (I wish them well).
“Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of [our] faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God (Heb. 12:2).” If we simply keep our eye on Christ, we’ll arrive at our intended destination, and that in perfect time. The challenge is, in part, mental. If we remain consistent, we’ll reap the benefit. Paul, in a letter to the Galatians, said, “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not (Gal. 6:9).”
“And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God (Luke 9:62).” It is incumbent upon us to fix our mind on Christ and then follow-up with corresponding action. That is, we must not look back (remember Lot’s wife) but continue to press toward the mark. I understand that we have goals aside from our relationship with Christ. However, these goals should never be in conflict to what God desires for us. We must seek Him to know His will for our lives both naturally and spiritually and then stay focused on His purposes for us.
