Do the Right Thing

“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset [us], and let us run with patience the race that is set before us (Heb. 12:1)”,…

Briefly, I simply want to encourage each of us to live in accordance with the Word and be mindful that others are affected by what we do and how we live.  In hearing the Brigham Young University (BYU) story, I believe that BYU made the right decision to suspend one of their star players for an honor code violation.  Someone said, “if we don’t stand for something, we’ll fall for anything.”  They stood to lose a lot (basketball games and funding) in making that decision.  I don’t necessarily believe that the balance of the situation was handled properly–i.e., the young man disclosing what the honor code violation was and the media swooping down/in like a pack of hungry vultures starving for their next story.  I guess this is just an example of the saying, “Behold your sins will find you OUT (Num 32:23).”  Honor codes in 2011?  I’d like to see more universities with honor codes.  Davies let his teammates down by breaking the agreement–they lost their game without him.  Sad…. There are those that are depending upon us to do the right thing.  God, help us to not fail you and not fail others that are persuaded by what we do and depending upon us to get it right.
